Our 56th  Year

Professor Roger Conant [ photo ] and a small group of reptile enthusiasts and herpetologists founded the Society in 1952. PHS is among the oldest herpetological societies in North America.  PHS is a IRS approved 501c3, non-profit, tax-exempt organization registered in Pennsylvania and chartered in Philadelphia.

The Society owns and operates a nature preserve in Southern New Jersey for threatened and endangered reptiles and amphibians (and other wildlife/habitat.)

Membership is open to anyone that shares our interests and conservation goals. Our members range from professional academic herpetologists to students and hobbyists interested in applied herpetology (i.e. herpetoculture.) If you live, work or visit in Southeast Pennsylvania or Southern NJ, please consider joining our group! If you would like to be a speaker or field trip guide, please contact the president.
